Weekly Sketches - Unusual Sizes 1

A new week, a new set of sketches... another day late. I wish I could give a worthwhile reason for this, but it's mainly because I've been puzzling out shipbuilding in Space Engineers. Though I must say that anyone who's played Minecraft can readily attest to how much of a time sink a block-building game can be.

You may have noticed that the title is 'Unusual Sizes l'. This is because I'll be continuing this theme with the next set of sketches. But first, here's the descriptions for this set:

Icicle Gleam and Rusty - I wanted to draw Rusty again, to see if I could do a better job on his goggles, which I do feel I succeeded at. And since his reference sheet describes him as being roughly the size of an average mare, he seemed like a good character to start this process with. I wasn't sure at first which character he would be standing next to here, but I eventually decided on Icicle Gleam, due to the fact that he has also been shown wearing goggles on several occasions. So yeah, despite the fact that these are actually a pair of stallions, they still show the relative size difference between mares and stallions in this cartoon. Drawing time: 59 minutes total.

Lunar Apologist and Pocket Sized - Since the first sketch contained average- and small-sized stallions, I figured that I should go with average- and small-sized mares next. And it wasn't too hard to choose which characters to draw. I think they make a very cute couple! Drawing time: 44 minutes total.

Fluttershy and Meteorite - This is basically the reciprocal to the first sketch, as it features two mares, one typical-sized, and one stallion-sized. It also contains the first canon character in this sketch, Fluttershy, who's looking a bit nervous here. But then that may not be much of a surprise, given that she's standing right next to the stallion-sized, heavily built, and very powerful Meteorite. Note: It doesn't really come through in a front-view image like this one, but Meteorite's design is akin to Mrs. Cup Cake (just on a grander scale), which helps to provide her with a very distinctive OC design. Drawing time: 52 minutes.

Big McIntosh - While the vast majority of canon characters are the default size for their gender, there are a few exceptions. And an obvious one would be the accurately named Big McIntosh, who is roughly half a head taller than an average stallion, and a full head taller than the typical mare. This picture would be a great example of his size relative to average ponies of both genders. Eeyup, that's a big pony. Drawing time: 35 minutes.

Princess Luna - Larger than average characters aren't limited to the males, of course. Princess Luna, like the other princesses, is also larger than the typical pony of her gender. Indeed, she is a full head taller, which actually makes her roughly the same height as Big Mac himself! Drawing time: 41 minutes.

Nocturne Star and Tempest Wind - Unlike the other pairs here, these two were drawn as two separate sketches. Tempest Wind is Nocturne's rough-and-tumble younger sister, and, much like Meteorite above, she's roughly the height of a typical stallion. Which of course makes her about the same height as her brother. She was drawn with her wings up simply to make her cutie mark clearly visible, as it could not be seen in the one picture of her that I had uploaded in the past. Drawing time: 32 minutes for Nocturne and 31 minutes for Tempest.

As a side note, I had a silly little theme going on in these sketches I've been doing, with each sketch featuring exactly one returning character from the previous week's set. I've officially broken that theme with this sketch, due to both Rusty and Nocturne returning from last week's sketch, but will likely be continuing it next week.
